Through biological sampling, OARRA’s Mortality Response Program monitors ocean animals for emerging and surging diseases, many of which affect both animals and humans. We test for many diseases, including leptospirosis, distemper, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), sarcocystosis, toxoplasmosis, and many more that pose threats to wildlife populations and public health alike. The list is ever-changing and widening!
